Constance “ignoring” boiling water attacks in prisons
Scottish Daily Express
|September 30, 2025
THE Scottish Government's Justice Secretary has been accused of ignoring the growing threat of boiling water attacks in Scotland’s overcrowded prisons.
Angela Constance is “passing the buck” on this issue, according to the Scottish Tories, by leaving it up to the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) to deal with access to kettles.
It was reported recently that there were eight incidents where boiling water was used to attack prison officers across five Scottish prisons in 2024.
This led to calls for the SPS to stop high-risk inmates from having access to kettles in their cells to reduce the number of incidents and injuries. Now, more data has been published which shows the scale of the problem in Scottish jails.
