Recent research on the problem-solving abilities of dogs and wolves, however, has cast doubt on long-held views.

Until now, the theory was that wolves are better at solving problems, while dogs are more receptive to being trained. Between 20,000 and 40,000 years ago, some wolves became domesticated into household dogs.
