We Are America March kicks off in Philadelphia

Approximately 300 people gathered at the kickoff event for the longest and largest citizen march the country has seen in years: 72 core marchers are journeying 160 miles on foot over fourteen days from Independence Hall (Philadelphia) to the US Capitol (Washington D.C.) carrying a copy of the Constitution written by children from all over the United States to hand directly to Congress.

March organizer Maggie Bohara says, “At this time when the rights enshrined in our Constitution are being trampled, we are marching because we want to remind Congress, and all of America, that our founding documents matter. It’s up to ‘we the people’ to defend our democracy.”

At the event, emceed by American drag queen and activist Brita Filter (formerly of RuPaul’s Drag Race), attendees heard from Rabbi Michael Pollack, founder of March on Harrisburg; State Representative Chris Rabb (D); Tim Brown, the Organizing Director at Philly Neighborhood Networks; and Deb Ciamacca, who recently ran for state representative.
