Parent versus no-kids conflict
Saturday Star
|April 05, 2025
IN an ideal world, your boss and co-workers wouldn't need to be parents themselves to understand the challenges that come with being a working mom or dad. Also, in an ideal world the school day and calendar would align better with the typical work schedule.
KATHLEEN DAVIS
We are obviously not in an ideal world, and unfortunately, resentment between parents and co-workers without children is common. No two people's lives are the same and people with all kinds of family structures have issues that pull their time and attention away from work. However, few things in life are as schedule-disrupting as being a parent.
Fortunately, there are ways to deal with this kind of workplace resentment and conflict.
Benefit everyone
Most parents can't make 8am meetings because that's prime time for getting the kids to school. You know who else hates 8am meetings? Just about everyone.
