Ground broken to improve school's special needs facilities

WORK has officially begun on a school expansion to create more places for children with special educational needs and disabilities in Halton.

Ground was broken on site at Ashley High School in Widnes to pave the way for construction of an extension with four new classrooms, enabling the school to increase pupil numbers.

Last year Halton Council approved plans to increase capacity from 112 to 152, with a grant from the Department for Education (DfE) of £2.1m to expand Halton's existing provision for pupils and students with high needs.

As well as the new special educational needs (SEND) extension, the work will also remodel car parking facilities and improve external landscaping.
