A ROSSENDALE outdoor education site with activities including tomahawk throwing and air rifles looks likely to get planning permission and more flexible opening hours, following a council meeting.

- BY ROBBIE MACDONALD

A partly-retrospective planning application for Wood-Sage outdoor education centre at Meadows Mill, Burnley Road, Bacup, was discussed at the latest development committee meeting of Rossendale Council.

Owner Simon Moorhouse wants permission to change the use of industrial land into a site for outdoor education and leisure for adults and children including those with special needs.

Speaking at the council, he said: “Myself and my wife, Bev, run Wood-Sage.

“Its a family-run, award-winning organisation which supports well-being, the environment and the local economy.”

“We work with children’s, youth and community groups; the Girl Guides, local schools, vulnerable people, families and community events. The business also contributes to tourism by attracting visitors from across Lancashire and beyond.

“Our activities are low impact.

“We have a Trip Advisor award and were shortlisted for the Northern Enterprise Awards.

“We operate strictly by appointment with organised travel by the groups.
