Center Government Urged to Lift Court Stay on Widening Ghaggar River: Harpal Singh Cheema

The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to finding a permanent solution to the recurring flood threats caused by the Ghaggar River.
Widening the river could provide a lasting solution, but the process is stalled due to a stay order from the Supreme Court on widening certain sections of the river in Punjab, from Makrour Sahib to Karail, obtained by the neighboring state of Haryana. For a permanent resolution to the hardships faced by Punjab’s people, it is essential that the Central Government fulfills its responsibility by persuading the Haryana Government to lift the stay. This would allow the Punjab Government to widen the river and strengthen its banks to ensure public safety. These views were expressed by Punjab Finance
