Muni urges residents to keep city clean

In a recent communique, the Polokwane Municipality appealed to residents, businesses and informal traders to work with the municipality in keeping the city clean, dignified and healthy.

"Together, let us protect our environment and uphold the pride of Polokwane," city manager Thuso Nemugumoni urged.

Residents flooded social media with messages over the festive season, complaining about uncollected refuse that had been left on sidewalks for days. The root of the problem appeared to be that residents are either unaware of the local authority's bylaws or are simply disregarding the rules. The municipality has made provision to have refuse collected despite the holidays. "Residents who do not comply with the bylaws should be fined," most of those who commented, agreed.
