Chauke has questioned the credibility of the investigating officer during closing arguments in the bail hearing, accusing the state of relying on unreliable and improperly sourced information to strengthen its case.Adv Isaac Mokgopo told the court that investigating officer WO Phaladi Makola used "backdoor information" to tighten charges against Chauke, arguing that the evidence presented was unreliable and should not be relied upon by the court. “The state witness was not credible and his evidence should be frowned upon. The state used information from the back door to paint the bail applicant as a lawbreaker who is always in and out of court,” Mokgopo said.
