In a heartwarming and unexpected moment during the Nelson Mandela Day commemorations in Extension 44 on Friday, Polokwane Mayor John Mpe demonstrated what true servant leadership looks like when he instructed that jobs be offered on the spot to unemployed guests at the event.
Moved by the spirit of ubuntu and touched by the presence of unemployed residents who had volunteered to assist in the day's activities, Mpe announced an immediate and life-changing intervention. Without hesitation, he instructed that the participating unemployed individuals be hired on the spot under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), so they can begin earning a living and put food on the table for their families.
