Councillors asked to reject plans for new supermarket

Plans to build a Sainsbury's in Auchterarder have been recommended for refusal by Perth and Kinross Council's planning team.

Councillors on the Planning and Placemaking Committee will meet to consider the application on Wednesday, July 9.

The supermarket submitted plans to Perth and Kinross Council to erect a convenience store on the eastern edge of the Perthshire town, with a car park, which would create up to 20 full-time and part-time jobs.

Officers have recommended councillors refuse the application on the grounds it is “an out-of-centre location” which is “not allocated for new retail development”. They have also deemed it as not being a small scale neighbourhood retail development and believe the store would have a “detrimental” impact on the town centre.
