Food prices have risen exponentially over the last number of years and many people have been priced out of affording the food that they need.

Food banks have become increasingly common, with those in the Trussell community in Scotland distributing 239,500 emergency food parcels between April 2024 and March 2025.

Food banks are not a long-term solution for people so many, like Renfrewshire Foodbank, now have advisers who can provide help to ensure people have all the income they should have as well as providing advice on many other topics.

What can a food bank adviser do?

A food bank adviser can check if you should be getting any benefits you're not currently claiming, and give advice about budgeting and on any debts you have.

They can tell you about other local community food services, such as community supermarkets and pantries, where you can access essentials at more affordable prices.
