More young people across Renfrewshire have gained valuable insight into the world of work through paid 'career ready' internships.

- EMYLIE HOWIE

This year, 27 pupils from local high schools have taken part in four-week placements during the summer holidays.

A dozen worked for Renfrewshire Council while 15 were at local businesses including Altrad, ASDA, City Gate Construction Ltd, Filshill Limited, KLAS Care, Lochile Construction Group, Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Career Ready is a UK-wide social mobility charity that partners with schools and employers to help young people unlock their full potential and develop essential workplace skills.

The two-year programme includes mentoring, skills masterclasses and a paid internship - giving those who are nearing the end of their school career a work-based learning opportunity to bridge the gap between education and employment.
