The view in our historic picture is from Wellmeadow Street and takes in the former John Neilson Institute on the hill.

By the time this picture was taken in October 1960, the former tenement in the middle had been demolished and a gap site created.
The institute and its purrich bowl are clearly visible, as is the corner of what was in the 1960s TSB bank.
