WE REVISIT DEREK PARKER'S RAMBLES THROUGH RENFREWSHIRE

Manor is a stunning memorial to the hunters of Hunterhill

Historic Blackhall Manor less than one mile from Paisley town centre has risen like a phoenix from architectural ashes.

Built during the 16th century, the dilapidated domain stood abandoned and derelict until about 30 years ago. Just off Barrhead Road, in busy Hunterhill, the rocky ruins of the three-storeyed medieval manor provided nesting places for cawing jackdaws and makeshift byres for lowing cattle herded in from the fields.

Scheduled for demolition during the late 1970s, Blackhall was rescued following a campaign by local heritage enthusiasts and the allocation of grants from Paisley Common Good Fund and other sources.
