Healthy life expectancy figures a concern

Women in Renfrewshire can expect to live well for 14 years less than their counterparts in wealthier parts of the country.

New figures, revealed by the National Records of Scotland (NRS), show women and men in the area have a healthy life expectancy below the national average, and substantially below those living in affluent communities.

Women in Renfrewshire can expect to live 56.5 years in good health-amongst the lowest rates in the country; for men in the region, the average is 56.1 years.

The figure jumps to 72.1 for women and 70.4 for men in Orkney-the area with the highest healthy life expectancy in Scotland. The Scottish average is 59.6 years for men and 60 for women.
