A Renfrewshire father-of-three who shed almost half his body weight to live a healthier life is now helping other Buddies with their weight loss goals.

- EMYLIE HOWIE

Douglas Clark once weighed in at 26st 11lbs but dropped over 12.5st after realising his size was becoming a barrier to the life he wanted to live.

Now, the dad-of-three has gone from battling high blood pressure and struggling to stay active to thriving in his family life and enjoying activities he once only dreamed of.

The 48-year-old’s journey began when his ultra-fit mother, a former national and international cycling champion, passed away in 2020.

Shortly after, his son expressed an interest in joining the gym, and Douglas knew it was time to make a change.

He told the Express: "My family has always been into fitness, both my parents were national cycling champions, but somehow it skipped me.

"When my son wanted to go to the gym, I wanted to join him, but I held back because I felt so self-conscious about how I looked."
