Cup joy showed Paisley at its best

For me, St Mirren Football Club lifting the Scottish League Cup against Celtic will stand as one of my defining highlights of 2025 - and not just for what happened on the pitch, but for what followed on the streets of Paisley.

Let's start with the football.

Nobody gave Saints much of a chance. Celtic arrived as favourites, heavy favourites at that, but this St Mirren side has been built on belief, resilience and unity.

Faith over Fear has been the mantra, and from the first whistle to the last, the team played like a group who knew exactly who they were and what they stood for.
