Community will have a say on public space as designs take shape

"Good progress" has been made on plans to create a public space or garden at the site where the Brown Institute once stood in Renfrew.

Hirst Landscape Architects has already been appointed by Renfrewshire Council to develop the designs for the project in Canal Street.

The local authority hopes to honour the legacy of the B-listed building with a facility that reflects its heritage and supports wider community activity.

Councillor John Shaw, an SNP representative for Renfrew North and Braehead, confirmed he had spoken to officers last week as he provided an update on the initiative on social media.

He said: "I'm told the appointed landscape consultant is making good progress with the commission, with initial draft designs currently being reviewed internally.
