Celebrating new bridge opening

Last week, people across the world commemorated the 80th anniversary of the end of hostilities in Europe.

While this didn’t immediately end the Second World War with fighting continuing in the Pacific for a further three months, it was an end to the carnage inflicted on European nations over six long years.

I joined with local people to commemorate the sacrifice of ordinary people called up to serve and protect our country from rising totalitarianism which threatened our way of life.

The scars of war both physical and mental last a lifetime and I am grateful that, here in my constituency, those injured in war have found specialist care from Erskine home, which to this day does invaluable work helping our veterans as they live with the horrors they have witnessed.

Search the branches of any family tree and there will be someone who stood up and fought for country and their families.
