Brave Glenvale lose out in cup after marathon shoot-out

In an extraordinary South Challenge Cup tie, Glenvale bravely bowed out of the competition after giving topflight Glenafton Athletic a wake-up call at the Ferguslie Sports Centre.

The West of Scotland League Premier Third Division ‘Vale held their own and lost out in cruel fashion on Saturday.

After a pulsating 90 minutes ended 2-2, the resulting penalty shootout lasted an eternity with 13 kicks taken by each side with the New Cumnock men scraping through.

Proud Glenvale manager Lewis McKim joked: “I have never been involved in a match where my centre-forward takes three penalties!

“I thought we were excellent, as we were in the game throughout, and towards the end we almost nicked it.

“I could not have asked for any more from the boys as penalties is a lottery.
