I WANT to start this month's column by thanking everyone who stood in West Lancashire in the Lancashire County Council elections at the start of the month.

Putting yourself forward to represent your community is no small feat but it is vital to producing a healthy and vibrant democracy.
Commiserations to those who stood for election and lost.
Congratulations to those who were elected. I look forward to seeing how you are able to deliver on the promises you made during the election and working with you in the interests of all our constituents.
There’s no escaping the fact that this year’s set of elections were disappointing for the Labour Party.
