Grandson of French Prez de Gaulle seeks Russian citizenship

In a move that has stirred political and cultural debate across Europe, Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of French wartime leader General Charles de Gaulle, has formally declared his desire to acquire Russian citizenship.

Speaking at the Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum last week, Pierre de Gaulle praised Russia’s “deep spiritual roots, strong national identity, and traditional values,” expressing admiration for what he called a “civilizational alternative” to the West.

“It would be an honor for me to become a Russian citizen,” he told reporters, standing before a portrait of his grandfather. “Russia today embodies a sense of sovereignty and values that Europe has abandoned.”
