Tram travel to be made safer as new scheme launched to tackle crime

A NEW scheme aiming to tackle crime on Nottingham's trams has been launched as part of collaborative efforts between Nottingham Express Transit (NET) and Nottinghamshire's police and crime commissioner (PCC).

The initiative is expected to be rolled out in early July and will improve safety levels for passengers and NET staff on trams.

The project, called Operation Safenet, will aim to achieve its purpose by sharing information between the police and NET by analysing crime trends and identifying solutions. Enhanced support, evidence gathering from dozens of help points at tram stops and CCTV cameras across the 20-mile tram system are part of the plan. The 12-month pilot scheme could be extended or even rolled out to Nottingham's other forms of public transport is successful.
