WHERE TO GO TO GET THAT SUGAR RUSH FROM OUT-OF-THE-ORDINARY HOMEMADE NOTTS CAKES

- By LYNETTE PINCHESS

SO SWEET

CAKE definitely makes the world a sweeter place and there's plenty of it to go around in Nottinghamshire.

Carrot cake, Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle... you can find these favourites everywhere.

But if you're after a sugar rush that's not quite so traditional, there's an array of cake shops selling something different - but just as tasty, so go on, spoil yourself (disclaimer: it doesn't take a nutrition expert to tell you about the risks of eating too much cake but everyone deserves a treat now and again).

With Mothering Sunday just around the corner, it's a timely reminder, if you've got a sweettoothed mum, to show how much you love her with an irresistible bake.

SWEET HOUSE BAKERY The most indulgent cakes can be found at the bakery which has shops in Arnold, at Coppice Road, and at Roma Court, on Colwick Industrial Estate. The award-winning family company has just teamed up with Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena to sell the goodies there.

imageSteffanie Woodhouse, who runs the business with partner Mat Blood, began baking at home as a hobby, never intending to take it further. But after she shared photos on social media, the number of requests showed a real demand for her traybakes, cheesecakes and brookies (a cross between brownies and cookies).

Thousands of cakes are made every week for customers and 15 other businesses across Nottingham. New flavours such as salted caramel KitKat brookies are constantly being created.

The shop celebrates the seasons with specials such as gingerbread chocolate lodges and festive trees at Christmas, pumpkin-shaped caramel chocolate cakes for Hallowe'en and, for Easter, a chocolate egg full of Bueno cheesecake. Other bestsellers are cookie pies, such as cornflake tart and Biscoff and caramel.
