Smallest losses for ten years as tram enters crucial period

NOTTINGHAM'S tram network has recorded its smallest financial loss for 10 years as bosses say passenger numbers are now "in line with expectations.

The improved performance comes as Nottingham's tram network enters a crucial period, with a study due to conclude in 2026 on the best locations for its possible extension.

Latest accounts covering the period up to the end of March 2025 have just been released and they show a £1.9 million loss for the last financial year. That is significantly down on the £26 million loss the year before and the number of passenger journeys has also increased by 300,000 since last year.

Nottingham's tram network is run through a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract held by Tramlink.

The PFI deal has seen private investors putting significant sums into the tram project, alongside investment from the government and Nottingham City Council.
