NEW CHALLENGE TO FUND RESEARCH
A MUM's life changed forever when she was told she had a brain tumour after going to Specsavers for a routine checkup.
Amy Stones, now 38, from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, went to the opticians in Sutton-in-Ashfield for a regular eye test where concerns were raised.
After being referred to her GP, Ms Stones was sent for an MRI scan at King's Mill Hospital.
Only half an hour after she returned to work, however, she was told to head to A&E at the Queen's Medical Centre.
A low-grade brain tumour called acoustic neuroma was pressing on her optic nerve and affecting her vision.
She said: "When they told me it was a brain tumour, I laughed at first and said, 'I think you've got it wrong - I feel absolutely fine.
"I was in a family room at the hospital with my husband Adam and my mum, and the news hit them hard. It didn’t really sink in for me until I was referred to A&E and surrounded by specialists.
