IMMIGRATION, NET ZERO AND UKRAINE WAR AMONG DIVISIVE ISSUES
OPPOSING groups of protesters stared each other down and exchanged chants in Nottingham’s Old Market Square amid a national anti-government and anti-immigration campaign.
Events were organised in major cities across the country by the Great British National Strike (GBNS) on Saturday. The movement opposes “illegal immigration, net zero, two-tier justice and the UK’s involvement in the Ukraine war” according to a fundraiser set up by organiser Richard Donaldson.
In Nottingham, protesters were met by a 150-strong counter demonstration organised by Nottingham Stand Up to Racism.
The group accused GBNS of being a “vehicle for the far-right” and pointed out it had no affiliations with any trade unions. A row of police officers split the two groups in the square but the protests remained peaceful during the period that the Post was there.
