'AMBITIOUS' 10-YEAR VISION TO IMPROVE LIVING STANDARDS ACROSS COUNTIES

- By NIGEL SLATER Local democracy reporter

THE East Midlands mayor has insisted there are “lots of places” where 100,000 new homes could be built in the region.

Regional mayor Claire Ward announced an “ambitious” 10-year plan to improve living standards in both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

The long-term vision aims “to deliver inclusive growth that raises prosperity and opportunity for all” and to put thousands more pounds into people's pockets.

It also sets a target of building 100,000 new homes.

The strategy also includes plans to create the “Trent Arc” - a tram network linking Nottingham and Derby and creating thousands of jobs in the process.

Overall, for the next decade the growth plan sets out an ambition to deliver:

£13 billion uplift in regional economic output

60,000 more people in work - with an 80% employment rate 210,000 more residents with skilled qualifications
