LINK ROAD FUNDING PAVES WAY FOR 3,000 HOMES
DEVELOPERS are mocing forward with development plans that could see a suburb grow by around 3,000 houses.
Discussions have been under way for years about major housing developments in Toton.
The projects have been plagued by uncertainty around funding and the closure date of a Ministry of Defence site.
That uncertainty is now ending thanks to a pledge of private financing from developers and a commitment from the Defence Secretary on the Chetwynd Barracks site.
Progress was further boosted this week after plans for one of the biggest developments were finally submitted.
Councillor Milan Radulovic, Broxtowe Borough Council's leader, said: "That whole greenfield area is under extreme pressure and it’s our job to plan a sustainable development for future generations."
With initial work potentially starting this year, below are all the major developments planned in Toton and how they all link.
The houses
■The biggest development for which official plans have been submitted is Bloor Homes’ proposal for an 880-home development on 60 acres next to NET’s Toton Lane Park and Ride site. The outline planning application was submitted on April 16 and marks the first phase of the formal planning process.
