Police worker who deleted maternity data 'did not act dishonestly'

A POLICE worker has resigned after deleting data on a major investigation into Nottingham's maternity services.

Last August, Nottinghamshire Police said a staff member had been suspended over allegations information was changed and deleted on force systems.

The worker had been part of Operation Perth - the police investigation into maternity care at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH), which is also subject to the largest maternity inquiry in NHS history.

Temporary Deputy Chief Constable Rob Griffin gave an update on the "unauthorised alteration and deletion of information" this week.

He said the "complex and thorough" investigation had concluded and the staff member had since resigned. However, he said the investigation had found no evidence of misconduct, contrary to the previously held belief of detectives that the data had been deliberately tampered with.
