Paterson in plea for reinforcements as he admits some of his Magpies are ‘running on fumes’

MARTIN Paterson admitted Notts County need further reinforcement before the summer transfer window closes, with his squad already “running on fumes” at an early stage in the season.

It has been far from a blistering start to the campaign for the Magpies, who were frustrated to draw 2-2 at home against Bromley on Saturday, having picked up their first win in midweek against a struggling Shrewsbury Town side.

For a club with high expectations at this level, the ownership and recruitment staff are under pressure to add more to the squad before the deadline, and their new head coach is not able to hide his current concerns.

Paterson has not been critical of the work done so far, but concedes there is a long way for his team to go in their development this term.

From his perspective, performances are improving inch by inch, but not converting these improvements into positive results has been an early frustration.
