MUM OF ATTACKS VICTIM SAYS PROPOSED BILL IS A 'BETRAYAL'

- By JOEL MOORE

'New law would mean we might not be told about killer's release'

THE mother of one of the victims of the Nottingham attacks has criticised a new proposed law, claiming it could mean she and the other bereaved families may not be told about the potential release of her son’s killer.

Victims’ rights campaigners have raised concerns over provisions in the Victims and Courts Bill, currently going through Parliament.

They say victims would have no statutory right to be told about decisions, including the detention or discharge, of mentally disordered offenders unless authorities “consider it appropriate”.

This would be a “betrayal” to victims, according to Emma Webber, whose son Barnaby was killed along with Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates in a series of brutal stabbings on June 13, 2023.
