New fleet of greener, quieter trains to enter service next month

TRAVELLERS on the Midland Main Line will benefit from the launch of the long-awaited £400 million East Midlands Railway (EMR) Aurora fleet in December.

The state-of-the-art Hitachi Rail-built fleet is able to run on both diesel and electric, cutting carbon emissions. The trains will provide more seats, modern, spacious interiors, improved air conditioning, free wi-fi, plug sockets at every seat and customer information screens.

The 33 bi-mode trains will take advantage of the £1.5 billion Midland Main Line upgrade, with the ability to run on electric overhead lines, cutting carbon emissions by 66%, meaning quieter and greener journeys.
