GAS EXPLOSION BROUGHT TERROR AND CONFUSION FOR RESIDENTS

A GAS explosion took a man's life, destroyed a house and led to residents being forced to flee their homes on Saturday night.

Residents first heard a loud bang at around 7.30pm in Worksop.

Emergency services were called to John Street and at around 8.30pm told people to avoid the area. They also declared a "major incident".

Pictures from the scene showed a terraced house partially collapsed and smoke rising into the sky.

At 9pm, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a gas explosion had taken place. Nearby properties were also damaged.
