Mental health trust chief to retire after inquiry into attacks

THE head of Nottinghamshire’s troubled mental health services is to retire after facing the scrutiny of the Nottingham attacks inquiry next year.

Ifti Majid, who has been chief executive of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust since December 2022, is to step down in June.

He intended to retire last month on his 60th birthday, but chose to stay in the role at the trust as it is scrutinised by the Nottingham Inquiry next spring, Nottinghamshire Healthcare said.

This judge-led, statutory inquiry will examine - among other things - the trust’s role in patient Valdo Calocane’s fatal stabbings of Barnaby Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates on June 13, 2023.
