Maynard looking for a ruthless streak after home loss

A LACK of a ruthless edge at home cost Notts County again as they were beaten by local rivals Chesterfield at the weekend.

Magpies boss Stuart Maynard bemoaned missed opportunities created during his team's strong first-half showing. A third defeat in four games took some of the shine off a great result away from home in midweek against Grimsby Town.

The fans are as important as ever in these rivalry games and Maynard knew getting them on board from the start was important. But there was perhaps a lingering concern at half-time once the team had seen multiple chances to take the lead pass them by.

"We needed to come and get the crowd on our side from minute one, which I think we did," said Maynard.

"The first-half performance was excellent and we created three big chances but we didn't take them.
