Man still in hospital as demolition work begins on gas explosion house

WORK to demolish a house severely damaged by a suspected gas explosion was set to start yesterday.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service said the terraced property in Eden Street, Alvaston would be dismantled along with two adjoining properties that "suffered structural damage" in the incident.

The fire service said the work is expected to take several days to complete, with an investigation taking place alongside the demolition.

It said demolishing the main property affected by the explosion on Tuesday night would "support the investigation into the cause of the explosion".
