Make mine a double! Pub is named best for ales and cider

A PUB well known for its wide selection of quality real ale and cider is celebrating after scoring not one, but two, awards.

The Wheatsheaf in Bingham has scooped two top honours from the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra), which champions traditional British pubs.

The family-run freehouse was named the Vale of Belvoir Pub of the Year, as well as Cider Pub of the Year.

General manager Niall Page said: “It was a nice surprise. I got the email and thought it was spam but it's fantastic.”

The pub, in Long Acre, has gained a reputation for its real ales. This week it has been running a battle of the breweries, inspired by last weekend's new Castle Beer Festival in the grounds of Nottingham Castle, showcasing the county's independent breweries.
