GOLF COURSE MAY BE USED TO BUILD NEW HOMES

RESIDENTS of a Nottinghamshire suburb have urged council planners to rule out building hundreds of new homes on a “beautiful” area where people go to escape.

The land currently used by Mapperley Golf Club, off Plains Road and Central Avenue, which is owned by Gedling Borough Council, could be allocated for housing in the council's new long-term plan.

The club’s chairman said staff and members would be “devastated” if its lease was not renewed in five years' time, but declined to comment further until a report detailing the council’s options was published at the start of July. Despite any potential construction being far in the future, those living and working around the 18-hole course said they would be disappointed to lose the more than 100-year-old facility.
