Good Samaritan had backpack stolen while he tried to help a man in distress

A MAN who was visiting Nottingham had his backpack stolen while he was helping someone in distress.

Jamie Mark, 39, was in the city centre after dropping off his two daughters, aged 10 and 12. The father, from Gosport, near Portsmouth, had just finished distributing £30 worth of McDonald’s food to homeless people.

He was on Carrington Street by the Broad Marsh Bus Station and decided to sit on a bench while waiting for his coach home, which was due at around 3am on Saturday, May 31.

It was about 2.10am when he noticed a man was in distress near Caffè Nero and went to help.

Jamie said: “I visit Nottingham every month to see the girls and if I have any money left over, I get some bits from McDonald’s to hand out to homeless people. After doing that, I still had a bit of time left so I just sat down on a bench.
