Drivers outraged at £60 charge for entering car park

A CAR park in Stapleford has come under fire from drivers who say they have been charged £60 for entering it for a short time and driving out again.

A large number of drivers have taken to social media claiming they have been "invoiced" by UKPS, which operates the site behind a small Sainsbury's store.

One driver, who says he was there for only around 70 seconds without realising he had to pay, says the lack of signs is catching people out and criticised it as "a money-making scheme".

A local councillor said the firm was "rinsing people" who briefly enter the car park.

UKPS has previously been criticised for the same practice but says there are signs in the car park warning of its terms and conditions and drivers are not charged for simply turning round.

Martin Leighton, 41, from Beeston, was dropping off his sister so she could pick up her new car. He said he pulled into the car park for 70 seconds and thought nothing of it. He then received a £60 charge, which, if not paid within 14 days, would be increased to £100.
