HISTORIC BUILDING OPENS TO PUBLIC FOR FIRST TIME

BUILDINGS that are usually closed off to the public will be throwing open their doors this month.

More than 80 events are taking place across Nottinghamshire during this year's Heritage Open Days.

This is a chance to explore hidden places and try out new experiences. There will be exclusive tours, talks, and family-friendly events. England's annual celebration of history and culture will take place from September 12 to September 21. Best of all, it’s all free.

One of the buildings granting public access for the first time in decades is The People’s Hall, a Grade II* listed building and one of Nottingham’s most important historic townhouses in Heathcoat Street, Hockley.

Originally built in 1750 for the Morley family, who were wealthy potters and civic leaders, the building retains exceptional Georgian interiors, including a magnificent staircase with intricate plasterwork and panelling.

Visitors will be able to explore the building’s rich history, from its origins as a grand family home to its transformation into a vital community hub. It was once the home of the Nottingham School of Design, a pioneering institution that helped the city’s manufacturing economy thrive.
