Campaigners scale chimneys at power station

ARRESTS have been made after Greenpeace UK activists climbed England's largest gas-fired power station, in Newark, to protest against rising gas prices.
Eight individuals were pictured at the top of two 75-metre-high chimney stacks at Staythorpe Power Station.
Yesterday's protest aimed to expose “the role expensive gas plays in setting electricity prices and pushing up bills”. The activists climbed the chimney stacks using the maintenance ladder rungs and stood on gantries displaying a banner reading “The great gas ripoff: now on!”.
As of 2.30pm, activists were still present at the site, a spokeswoman for RWE, the company which owns the power station, confirmed.
