'Ageing' council vans are blamed for missed housing appointments

AROUND 25 OF 341 VEHICLES ARE OFF THE ROAD EACH DAY
NOTTINGHAM City Council has partly blamed its 'ageing fleet' of vans for taking too long to carry out housing repairs as it prepares to spend £10 million replacing all vehicles.
The Labour-run authority says its current fleet of 341 vehicles are in such poor shape that its staff are regularly missing appointments.
Around 25 of the vans are off the road each day on average and the council has spent more than £3 million in recent years repairing them.
A recent report by the Regulator of Social Housing found serious failings in Nottingham’s council housing, with the report telling the council that it needed to reduce waiting times for new repair requests.
