GIBBS-WHITE CAN GET BACK TO WHAT HE DOES BEST AFTER NEW CONTRACT SHOCK

THE countdown to the new season is well and truly on for Nottingham Forest and the club's supporters

The 2025/26 campaign will be a big one for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The Reds are set to compete in Europe for the first time in three decades and will also be keen to continue making progress in the Premier League after last season’s remarkable turnaround.

With that in mind, the next few weeks will be key for the club - both on and off the pitch as the search for new players goes on.

Sarah Clapson has opened up her Forest notebook on the latest goings-on Trentside....

■MARINAKIS’ MIC DROP

It certainly came as a surprise to many when news of Morgan Gibbs-White signing fresh terms for Forest came through on Saturday evening.

If there was going to be any announcement about the England international, it seemed most likely it would be one regarding a departure.

Tottenham Hotspur wanted him and thought they had got him. But instead Gibbs-White penned a new three-year deal with the Reds - with owner Evangelos Marinakis playing a key role in the unexpected development.

Marinakis’ son, Miltiadis, quipped on Instagram: “PLOT TWIST.” It was a real mic drop moment. As the Forest chief himself said: “The result is, at the end of the day we always win.”

Spurs will have been left licking their wounds after that bruising encounter.

They had appeared on the verge of signing Gibbs-White earlier this month when a £60 million release clause in his contract was triggered.

According to The Telegraph, this new deal does not include a release clause. Additionally, it is said there is ‘no gentleman’s agreement’ for Gibbs-White to depart next summer - as some had mooted.
