Govt to revamp PM Internship Scheme
Mint Mumbai
|September 23, 2025
The government is set to overhaul the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, which seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world experience for the youth, to boost its adoption.
In the first phase of the internship scheme, while 621,000 people applied, only 28,000 accepted offers.
The revised scheme is set to be placed before the Union cabinet for approval soon, two persons aware of matter said on the condition of anonymity.
The scheme aims to give one-year internship opportunities to 10 million people over five years, and offers ₹5,000 in monthly stipend and a onetime payment of ₹36,000 to interns upon joining.
Based on experience from two phases of the pilot project implemented so far, the modification to the scheme will be comprehensive based on a review of all the parameters, eligibility conditions and the scope of the scheme, unlike minor tweaks contemplated earlier, said the first person.

The miseries of convention
Parades, rainbow-coloured flags and conferences, while critical to claiming space and reinforcing the importance of inclusion and equality, often camouflage the fact that for many in the LGBTQ+ community, there is no option of stepping into the light, even in cities, even with financial independence.
