What EPFO’s new draft on final settlement, withdrawals means
Mint Ahmedabad
|October 15, 2025
The Employees’ Provident Fund’s Central Board of Trustees proposed major changes to the PF rules to simplify partial withdrawals.

However, full settlements after leaving a job, may become more restrictive. Mint explains what the new proposals mean for you.
Among the changes announced on Monday, the current 13 complex conditions for partial PF withdrawals will be grouped into three broad categories. “Earlier, EPFO had 13 specific conditions with separate limits and eligibility rules. We've simplified them into three categories,” Madhu Damodaran, CBT member and regional managing partner at Amlegals, said. First, for milestones like marriage, illness or education. Second, for housing and third, for special circumstances where mem-
Members need not submit documents for partial withdrawals. “Simplified provision, greater flexibility and removal of documentation will enable 100% auto-settlement of partial withdrawal claim, improving ease of living,” EPFO said.

How donors must engage NGOs for better social results
In India's complex ecosystem of social change, the relationship between those who provide funds and those who dedicate their lives to work on the ground deserves far more attention. It is a relationship that at its best can contribute to real change, but can also be stifling. My reflections are rooted in our learnings (and some mistakes) at the foundation I am part of. We currently support over 1,400 NGOs across the country, from new entities to well-established institutions. We receive over 300 formal grant requests every month. These numbers provide a large bed of experience to identify good practices and missteps. This is an unsolicited note to fellow donors—philanthropic foundations, corporate social responsibility spenders and individuals—on how we can try to fulfil our roles better.
