UTTARAKHAND: 5 RESCUED ALIVE Chamoli landslides kill 2, six feared trapped

Heavy rainfall triggered landslides and flooding on Thursday in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, flattening more than 40 homes across four villages and leaving at least two people dead, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Dehradun.

Rescue operations managed to save five individuals, while six others remain unaccounted for under debris in the rain-hit region.

The affected villages—Kuntari Lagaphali, Kuntari Lagasarpani, Sera, and Dhurma—are all part of the Nandanagar area, approximately 260 km from Dehradun and 50 km from the district headquarters at Gopeshwar.

The region, already vulnerable due to prior land subsidence, witnessed wall cracks and partial evacuations last month.

SEOC officials confirmed that four people were rescued alive in Kuntari Lagaphali, including two women and a child, and one person in Dhurma. Twelve residents sustained injuries during the incident. Those with serious injuries, including the child, were airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh for treatment.
