Tribal leader Mohan Majhi takes oath as Odisha's first BJP CM

In a landmark political shift, Mohan Charan Majhi, a tribal leader and four-time MLA from Keonjhar district, was sworn in as Odisha’s first BJP Chief Minister in a ceremony graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside numerous Union ministers and BJP state leaders.

KV Singh Deo, a seasoned BJP politician from Patnagarh, and Pravati Parida, a newcomer from the Nimapara Assembly area, were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.

The oath of office was administered by Governor Raghubar Das to Majhi, aged 52 and a member of the Santhal community, as well as to the newly formed ministerial council at Bhubaneswar’s Janata Maidan.

Marking a historic moment, the BJP has established its governance in Odisha, overthrowing the longstanding Biju Janata Dal (BJD) regime of 24 years, previously led by Naveen Patnaik.

Prime Minister Modi, in a social media post, heralded the day as historic for Odisha, expressing his gratitude for the support of the state’s populace and his attendance at the inauguration event.
